It has been a few weeks now since ESOMAR in New Orleans ended. Nevertheless here is a small summary of the events and the vibe which this event provided.
Let us first take a look at the setting of the event: New Orleans!
The 2016 ESOMAR Congress was hosted in the Hyatt Regency, which was within easy walking distance of the French Quarter, Arts District and the scenic Mississippi Riverfront.
The neighborhood, also known as Vieux Carré, is the heart and soul of this city, and it’s also a National Historic Landmark. While strolling, it is best to pay attention to the neighborhood’s architecture: balconies are designed with baroque ironwork and hanging plants, while leafy courtyards are filled with bubbling fountains. The scene is definitely charming. Undoubtedly, the French Quarter’s main draw is Bourbon Street — New Orleans’ infamous party hub. This street can be found laden with street performers and fortune tellers as well as rowdy bars. There are undoubtedly more and more words to describe everything but in short, I’d use just breathtaking.

Pitching an idea in
We had been looking at different tags that might summarize the vibe of the event. A lot of the workshops shifted around topics that enabled in-the-moment measurement of respondent emotions. Therefore the extra session on mobile surveys which are vital for them. Besides that, SSI hosted a workshop on “MAKING IN-THE-MOMENT REAL” in which attendees and instructors collaborated to build, launch and review results of a Live Mobile Project.
#YES #ESOMAR
#YES – standing for Young ESOMAR Society pitch competition, was an excellent project that brought young researchers and students of research to take center stage at the Congress. The idea is, pitching the plan or the individuals’ idea to the audience in 60 seconds and allowing the said audience to vote – the best 2 had the opportunity to do a presentation PechaKucha style (20 slides shown for 20 seconds each).
#ESOMARping – The most rewarding social experiment by far! Basically, #ESOMARping is a spontaneous interview series where one person answers a question, then asks their very own question, without knowing who will answer it. There is absolute freedom in what question to ask – as long as it somewhat pertains to Millennials – therefore, the ping pong spirit!
Check out Carsten’s video which in ESOMAR’s words is a brilliant and fun nerd alert.
See you next year in Amsterdam!
We look forward to next year’s Esomar in our home country – The Netherlands. No surprise there, Amsterdam will be an amazing location to host the anniversary event for 70 years of Esomar – the dynamic vibe of the city paired with a healthy dose of professionalism!
